This edition of MediaCoder will take just about any media source and convert it into a format suitable for playing on Apple devices: the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV.
The program supports a wide range of audio and video formats: all MPEG variants, AC3, DTS, 3GP/ 3G2, OGG, AAC, WAV, RA and RAM, WMA, APE, FLAC, MKV, AVI, RM, RMVB, WMV, FLV and more.
It's also able to transcode directly from discs, URLs, RSS feeds, and most capture devices.
There's support for outputting in a variety of Apple-friendly forms, from basic iPhone/ iPod Touch 480x320 videos, to full-strength iPad-compatible 720p.
But if you'd like to process the video first, there are a huge array of useful filters on offer, more than you'd expect with a video editor. So you can trim or crop your footage, deinterlace and remove noise, tweak brightness, contrast or saturation, adjust gamma, hue and more.
Support for hardware acceleration technologies like CUDA means transcoding is generally very quick, though, and a multi-threaded design means you can even convert files in parallel for the best possible performance.
