Viruses are a serious and ever-growing problem for anyone that uses the internet, and infected downloads are a common means of delivering viruses to unsuspecting users. One way to check whether the file you are downloading is what it claims to be is to make use of checksum values using a wizard led interface.
SFV and MD5 checksums are supported, and these are unique numbers that can be generated for any file that is available. Web sites will often published the checksum values for files they host so they users can check that the value is the same once the file has been downloaded - in this way it is possible to determine whether or not the file has been interfered with in any way.
Checksum Control Portable can be installed on your computer like any other app, but it can also be added to a USB drive like many other portable apps so you can easily transport it and use it on other computers. The easy to follow wizard interface make it very simple to both check and create checksums in just a few steps.
When creating a checksum, filenames can be automatically generated from the files you are working with, or you can opt to use your own naming scheme. Comments can be optionally added to the checksums you create, and the process of verifying files you have downloaded against their checksum values is equally simple.
