Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Complete 2014 is a comprehensive security suite, packed with essential features and functionality.
This starts with a quick and hassle-free installation. There's no insistence on removing "incompatible" products, no need to manually update the antivirus database or run scans yourself: the program quickly searches for and removes any existing threats, before setting itself up and running quietly in the background (you don't even have to reboot).
When you do need to launch the program or check some setting, there's no bulky, flashy interface to navigate, either. The suite's functions are organised into sensibly-named sections, and even new users will generally find everything they need in a click or two.
And yet, despite this apparent simplicity, Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Complete 2014 manages to squeeze in a great deal of powerful features. There's an accurate core antivirus engine; smart behaviour monitoring; a highly configurable firewall; antiphishing and identity theft protection; a password manager, online backup client (with 25GB of storage), some useful privacy tools, and more.
New features this time include real-time antiphishing, with the program able to block even the very latest malicious websites. Webroot Infrared "blocks advanced persistent threats with a multi-layer defense engine". Explorer integration makes it easier to use the suite's Backup and Sync tools. And there's also improved malware cleanup and detection, and Windows 8.1 compatibility, all wrapped up in a revamped and simplified interface.
Best of all, though, is that Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus 2014 manages to deliver all this functionality while also having the absolute minimum impact on your system performance. PassMark's April 2013 Consumer Security Products report is a great example: the company benchmarked PCs after installing 14 different suites, and Webroot Internet Security topped the list by a huge margin.
Conveniently, the suite also provides mobile protection for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. Not bad, especially when you consider that the $79.99 list price already covers up to 5 devices for a year. There are no complications or catches, either: you can protect a combination of PCs, Macs, Android and iOS devices, using a single license.
Please note, this is the most powerful of the SecureAnywhere packages. If it's more than you need, Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus 2014 ($59.99) has almost the same features, just dropping the online backup tool and privacy tools (web history cleanup, secure file deletion); and Webroot SecureAnywhere Antivirus 2014 provides the core basics, with its strong antivirus engine and antiphishing protection.
