Acronis True Image 2014
The latest Acronis release adds more online backup power

Acronis True Image 2014 is the next generation of Acronis International's popular backup tool.

The core of the program remains as before: it's a powerful way to back up anything from individual files and folders, to single partitions or entire hard drives.

True Image 2014 now supports backing up your system to Acronis Cloud, the company's online storage service (it gives you one year of 5GB storage for free). There's very little extra involved in making this happen. You just choose "Online Storage" in the "Destinations" box, enter your cloud user name and password and you're ready to go.

Acronis says the online backup and recovery process has been tweaked for extra performance in this release, and True Image 2014's support for incremental image backup and recovery - online, as well as locally - should further help to improve speeds.

The True Image bootable recovery environment now also fully supports Acronis Cloud. If your system won't start then you can run an incremental partition recovery from an online backup, getting your system working again with the minimum of hassle.

There's support for creating up to 5 online backups from a single computer, giving you considerable flexibility in deciding what to restore.

The other big news this time is that the program comes fully certified for Windows 8 (although of course it also works on everything from XP onwards).

Of course True Image 2014 still has all its previous features: smart scheduling, backups to just about anywhere (DVDs, USB keys, GPT drives, NAS devices, the cloud), 256-bit AES encryption, free Android and iOS mobile apps, easy restoration, and more.

And if you need even more, the new True Image 2014 Premium edition has all the standard features, but also supports restoring your backups to any other PC, dynamic disks, even Microsoft Windows PE environments. This may be particularly useful when migrating to a new computer, as the program can transfer selected files, folders or the entire system to your target PC. (None of this is available in the trial version, but you can read more about True Image Premium on the Acronis site.)

Please note, the installer will ask you to enter an activation code. Clicking a link will open a web page where you can provide your email address and have one sent to you, but this may also start downloading the installer again. If it does, just cancel that download, you don't need it - your activation details will be emailed to you shortly.

What new in build 6688 (which is called "Update 3")?

- Acronis Customer Experience Program is turned on by default.
- Acronis Universal Restore is available as a separate ISO file under user account.
- Online backup stops responding while reconnecting to Acronis Cloud.
- The SyncAgent service fails to download file from Acronis Cloud. The error is "Invalid usage".
- Clicking "Download User's Guide" downloads an old User's Guide.
- Nothing is uploaded to the beta_report server due to certification changes.
- After a network connection is lost, the Reconnecting... state lasts for an hour, and the backup fails.
- The links to contact support are outdated.

Local backups haven't changed much, but Acronis True Image 2014 is now a much more capable online backup tool than before, and the 5GB free space is welcome.

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 (v11.0.6)

Free Full Commercial Software

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 is a compact, simple, but surprisingly feature-packed disc burning suite.

The program makes it easy to create simple data discs and audio CDs, for instance: just drag and drop your files onto the list area and you'll be burning the finished disc in a couple of clicks.

That's just the start, though. Burning Studio 2013 can also create data discs with customised, interactive multi-page menus, perfect if you'd like a more professional way to share and present the disc contents.

A built-in backup tool allows you to create backups which may be encrypted, compressed, and span several CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays.

And there are modules to create VCD or SVCD video projects; burn video DVDs or Blu-ray discs from prepared folders; create, browse or burn disc images (ISO, CUE/ BIN and Ashdisc formats are supported); copy discs, erase them, design and print disc covers, labels and booklets, and more.

The focus throughout is on ease of use, though, and so Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 remains very straightforward, whatever you're doing. Most disc projects are created via the same simple interface, and for the most part all you have to do is drag and drop the necessary files. But experts will find more advanced options are only a click away, and if you need to then you can set ISO and UDF version, enable Joliet, make a disc bootable and more.

Note the download here will take you to the Downloadcrew Software Store where you can download Burning Studio 2013.
