Are you worried about the digital trail your online activities leave behind? Simply blocking cookies in your web browser isn’t enough to secure your privacy, with spies coming from all directions - even Windows itself.

Kamo aims to provide you with a single tool from where you can evade all the latest threats regardless of what applications you’re using – so even if you flit between web browsers, you can be sure your protection is consistent across them.

Rather than block trackers, Kamo makes use of patented technology to generate random fingerprints with fake information. These bear no reflection to your actual online activities and are changed regularly according to a randomly rotating schedule.

Kamo also locks down Windows 10 or later, preventing Microsoft’s own tracking tools from building a profile of you, and the latest version also masks your location through a cut-down VPN connection.

Once installed a personal dashboard gives you an overall privacy score based on your current settings, and reveals how your browser fingerprint is randomised on a random schedule. Beneath this are a list of sections along with suggestions for improving protection in key areas: anti-tracking, browser, Windows and your connection.

They’re all largely self-explanatory – mostly simple on/off switches or – in the case of browser cleaning – a series of simple-to-understand settings, with sensible default settings (namely not selecting options that will wipe saved passwords or log you out of websites without your say so).

Kamo 4.0 introduces a new Private Connection option, which is basically a cut-down VPN. Selecting this masks your location and IP address by choosing a different server within your own country – it’s not as comprehensive or feature-packed as a dedicated VPN, but it offers another layer of privacy.

Do you need Kamo? There’s no doubt it provides a convenient one-stop solution to various privacy issues, but you’ll find most – if not all of its functionality – available elsewhere. Contrary to the program’s claims, your antivirus may offer additional anti-tracking tools, while Firefox’s Enhanced Tracking Protection also claims to block more than just cookies. Elsewhere, free tools like O&O ShutUp10++ can lock down many Windows privacy settings for free. You may even already have a subscription to a VPN service.

That said, Kamo does provide an elegant, centralised solution that can provide peace of mind to those who don’t want to juggle multiple apps or who worry that they’ve left holes in their protection.

Note: The 14-day trial provides you with access to all the anti-tracking technologies but doesn’t include the latest VPN-based protection for masking your location.

Verdict:

Most of Kamo’s functionality can be had elsewhere, but it does provide a simple, one-stop tool to boost privacy for those who want a fuss-free solution.
