WashAndGo 19
Automatically clear away all your PC's junk

The more you use a PC, the more cluttered it becomes, weighed down by left-over "temporary" files, orphaned Registry keys and a host of other junk.

WashAndGo 19 can help to reverse all this, restoring your system's original performance and stability. And not just by the usual basic steps, like emptying the Recycle Bin and clearing your browsing history. Instead, the program uses a deep knowledge of Windows and hundreds of applications to locate every surplus file and Registry key, giving your system the most thorough clean you'll find anywhere.

Install and launch WashAndGo 19 and you'll quickly find out more, as the program analyses your system and reports on the results. This starts with the obvious junk, the Recycle Bin, crash dumps and temporary files. But our test PC also had leftover files and Registry keys from Adobe Reader, IrfanView, iTunes, Word, Skype, uTorrent and VLC Media Player, as well as many megabytes of forgotten *.OLD and *.TMP files.

We're often suspicious of applications which ask to delete so much information. If they make a mistake, then there's no telling what might happen: in the worst case, you might cripple your PC.

Fortunately, WashAndGo 19 allows you to stay in full control. If you view its report and decide that you don't want to clear any Java files, say, just clear a checkbox and they'll be left alone.

Unusually, the program will also by default back up any files it deletes, keeping them for two weeks. If WashAndGo 19 does cause a problem for some reason, all you have to do is restore the backup.

You might start by using WashAndGo 19 to run a few manual cleanups, then. See how much drive space you've recovered, confirm that your system and applications work just as they always have. Or maybe even better, with the junk removed.

Once you're confident that the process is safe, you can have WashAndGo19 run automatically. You can have it clean your system when Windows starts, once a day, or at some preferred schedule of your own. And once this is set up, there's no need to worry about system junk anymore - WashAndGo 19 handles it all in the background, while you get on with more important matters.

Verdict:

Decent system maintenance toolkit, but there are equally good freeware equivalents.

Windows 10 October 2018 Update (build 1809)

Free Full Commercial Software

This is the latest version of Windows October 2018 Update. it's a media creation tool that can be used to upgrade an existing installation of Windows or create installation media for another PC. Just make your choice after launching the tool and it'll do the rest.

What was new in Windows 10, when it was released? The OS brought back the Start Menu, though with a Windows 8 twist: live tiles keep you up-to-date with the latest news while also providing an easy way to launch apps. (Don't worry if you prefer the Start Screen, it's still there and you can boot into it if you prefer.)

Apps now work much more like regular desktop programs. They have minimise, maximise, restore and close buttons, and can be resized (to a degree) and organised however you like.

If you've still lost track of a program in the mass of open windows, a new Task Spaces feature can help. Click its taskbar button and you'll see thumbnails for everything running now, a little like OS X's Mission Control - just click something to switch to it.

Better still, Task Spaces also supports virtual desktops. Add extra desktops as required and it'll display thumbnails of each one, making it easy to identify whatever you're after and switch to it.

There's also smarter snapping, new customisation options, and even a bunch of experimental additions to the command prompt.

Fall Creators Update brings a whole host of new features for Windows 10. See the Microsoft Blog for more information.

The Windows 10 ISO here will give you build 1809 which is the October 2018 Update.
