Mozilla Thunderbird 45
Major update to the popular email client, but with a limited number of new features

Thunderbird is an email client from Mozilla, the organisation better known for the Firefox web browser which has a great deal to offer. In addition to handling multiple email accounts, the program can also be used to subscribe to RSS feeds and access online newsgroups and a new tabbed interface makes it easy to jump between individual emails or different aspects of the program.

There are new tools available to make it easier to manage a burgeoning inbox Email archival makes it possible to remove messages from your main inbox while retaining them for future reference, and the advanced search facility takes the hard works out of tracking down messages using a keyword filtering and timeline system.

As is the case with Firefox, Thunderbird supports addons can be used to customise and extend the features of the program. Getting started with the email client has been greatly simplified thanks to automatic account setting detection and nice touches such as the appearance of a warning if an email is written which includes the word 'attached' but no attachment is added make Thunderbird a joy to use.

With advanced security, phishing protection and automatic updating, coupled with countless other features which are simply not found in other email clients, Thunderbird is the ideal program to handle your email correspondence and much more.

What's new in 45 (see release notes for more):

- NEW. Add a Correspondents column combining Sender and Recipient
- NEW. Much better support for XMPP chatrooms and commands.
- NEW. Remote content exceptions: Improved options to add exceptions.

- NEW. Use OpenStreetmap for maps (even allow the user to choose from list of map services)
- NEW. Allow spell checking and dictionary selection in the subject line
- NEW. Allow editing of From when composing a message.
- NEW. Add dropdown in compose to allow specific setting of font size.

- NEW. Allow copying of name and email address from the message header of an email
- NEW. Mail.ru supports OAuth authentication.
- FIX. Lots of fixes (see release notes above for info)

Verdict:

Evolution rather than revolution is the buzzword for Thunderbird, but all the improvements are welcome, nonetheless.

The main problem with Mozilla products is DO NOT try to get in touch with them if you have a problem like exporting your address book. There is no way to send a question vie eamil, because you cant as I have been trying for two weeks to find a way to get the problem to them as I do not use twitter or facebook other then that it is a simple email program to use.

attachment reminder

I'm glad you like the attachment reminder. It was added at my suggestion. It was a feature of the venerable Pegasus which was my email client of choice back in the dinosaur days of DOS.

WhatsApp Messenger 2.16.2

Free Full Commercial Software

WhatsApp Messenger is the world's most popular instant messaging app for smartphones.

You can use it to send and receive text and voice messages, photos, videos, even call your friends in other countries, and because it uses your phone's internet connection it might not cost you anything at all (depending on whether you'll pay data charges).

It's easy to set up and use. There's no need to create and remember new account names or pins because it works with your phone number, and uses your regular address book to find and connect you with friends who use WhatsApp already.

You can talk one-to-one or in group chats, and because you're always logged in there's no way to miss messages. Even if your phone is turned off, WhatsApp will save your messages and display them as soon as you're back online.

There's plenty more (location sharing, contact exchange, message broadcasting) and the app is free for a year, currently $0.99/ year afterwards.

What's new in 2.16.1?
