There are various reasons why you may have duplicate files on your hard drive. You may have been copying photos or other files from one computer to another and it is easy to lose track of which you have been working with. It is often easier to leave files well alone rather than risk deleting a file you think you have a copy of in another folder only to find that you were wrong.
Decloner takes the guess work out of hunting down duplicate files. Using SHA-1 cryptographic algorithm, the program can quickly determine whether two files are identical even if they have different name or modification dates.
You can opt to scan your entire hard drive for duplicate files which are serving no purpose other than wasting space, or you can limit the search to individual folders. The simple interface makes it easy to manually compare file properties and exclude particular folders from searches if required.
As a safeguard, duplicate files are not deleted outright, they are moved either to the Trash or a folder of your choosing so you can be certain that there is a copy of the file left. This is a fast and highly configurable tool that could claim you back a great deal of space and is well worth taking for a test drive.
