Google’s Gmail or Google Mail service revolutionised the world of web based emails, giving users access to a virtually unlimited amount of storage space for their emails. While the key selling point of this storage space was that it meant emails never had to be deleted, few people have need for quite this amount of space for messages alone.
Gmail Drive shell extension enables you to put this space to good use by transforming it into online storage that can be accessed through Explorer. The virtual drive that is created can be used like any other – just drag and drop files into place and the utility will generate an email with your selected files attached to it.
This provides a great way to ensure that the files you need can be accessed from any computer with an internet connections and helps to put Google’s free storage space to better use. To prevent your Google inbox from filling up with emails associated with the files you upload, a filter can be created to help keep things separate.
Gmail Drive is a great alternative to the likes of Dropbox, particularly if you are already a Google Mail user. The ability to keep all of your emails alongside your online files is hugely advantageous, and this tool comes highly recommended.
Verdict:
Gmail Drive’s somewhat unusual approach to online storage takes a little getting used to, but once you have the hang of it, it works wonderfully well.
