Apple has rolled out iTunes 11.3, the latest update to its popular media tool for Mac and Windows. Version 11.3, which is also available as a separate 64-bit build for Windows, extends its iTunes Extras feature to HD movies.
iTunes Extras include additional featurettes – some of which may be interactive – to accompany movies, such as behind-the-scenes documentaries, director’s commentary and high-resolution image galleries.
The extras themselves are included when users purchase the HD version of a movie, and are added at the content creator’s discretion using templates provided by Apple. Previously purchased HD movies that subsequently add Extras will be added to the user’s library as and when they become available for no additional cost.
The update was accompanied by Apple TV Update version 6.2, which also adds iTunes Extras to the set-top box and also came with unspecified performance and stability improvements. Owners of iPhones, iPads and iPod touches will have to wait until later in the year for the added features, which will be included as part of the iOS 8 update.
iTunes 11.3 and iTunes 11.3 (64-bit) are both available now for free download for Mac (OS X 10.6.8 or later) and Windows (XP or later).
