A powerful screen capture/ editing tool

HotShots is a tool for capturing screens, then annotating them in various ways.

The program offers a good range of capture types. It can grab the full screen, all screens (in a multimonitor setup), the active window, and rectangular or freehand regions. These all have their own default hotkeys, but you can customise them to whatever you like.

After taking a snapshot, you can have the program add a simple effect (drop shadow, borders, progressive opacity, torn edges), before saving it directly to disk, either automatically or with a regular "Save As" dialog.

The real fun starts if you open your grab in the HotShots editor, though, where you can enhance your image with a host of vector-based annotations.

You might start by drawing lines, squares, ellipses and arrows, perhaps, or adding text captions. You can also draw curves, polygons, polylines and more. And handy extras include an "Encircle" tool which draws a vector ring around whatever you want to highlight; an "Obfuscate" tool pixelates text you'd like to hide; "Magnify" magnifies a circular area of the image, to zoom in on some fine detail; and "Tag" adds a new numbered tag to the image every time you click.

Finally, once all this is finished, your image can be copied to the clipboard, saved directly to disk, or even uploaded to the web (there's support for saving to Imgur, Imageshack, FreeImageHosting and CanardPC, as well as your own FTP account).

Version 2.2.0 brings "the ability to restore the previous selection in region and freehand grabbing and some new options for the download process".

It has a few interface quirks, but overall HotShots is a great screen capture tool, highly configurable and with an exceptionally good editor

Hot Shots Screen Capture & Edit Freeware

This is the best screen capture tool i've used. The editor options are a real time-saving bonus since you can get your capture ready to post online or to save to use later with your text/spreadsheet/presentation software without having to leave the application and using another program to edit it. Please notice that this program was updated in July 23 and here's the link: So please refresh your download page when you can, thanks.

WhatsApp Messenger 2.12.7

Free Full Commercial Software

WhatsApp Messenger is the world's most popular instant messaging app for smartphones.

You can use it to send and receive text and voice messages, photos, videos, even call your friends in other countries, and because it uses your phone's internet connection it might not cost you anything at all (depending on whether you'll pay data charges).

It's easy to set up and use. There's no need to create and remember new account names or pins because it works with your phone number, and uses your regular address book to find and connect you with friends who use WhatsApp already.

You can talk one-to-one or in group chats, and because you're always logged in there's no way to miss messages. Even if your phone is turned off, WhatsApp will save your messages and display them as soon as you're back online.

There's plenty more (location sharing, contact exchange, message broadcasting) and the app is free for a year, currently $0.99/ year afterwards.

Version 2.12.7 brings:

• Starred Messages
