KwikOff is a collection of tools which can close or reboot your PC, put it into standby, hibernation or just log off from the current account, all in a single click.

Unzipping the download reveals the five KwikOff executable files: koHibernate.exe, koLogoff.exe, koReboot.exe, koShutdown.exe and koStandby.exe. You can probably guess what each one does.

Unlike some similar programs, though, KwikOff has a strong emphasis on safety. Launch koReboot, say, and your system won't boot immediately (very bad news if you've started it by accident). Instead a window appears with a 60-second countdown, so you can click "Cancel" if you've changed your mind, or "Now" if you're impatient.

There are still potential risks, though. If you allow the program to reboot or shut down your PC, and there's an application with unsaved data, then it will display the usual "do you want to save?" message. But this will only be visible for a few seconds. If you delay - or you've looked away and don't see the pop-up - then the system will close down and your work will be lost.

In some ways this means KwikOff gives you the worst of all worlds. You don't get an instant reboot, but you don't get guaranteed safety, either. (Plus of course if you want to make a shutdown shortcut then you can just use the standard shutdown.exe tool, anyway.)

Still, KwikOff looks good, and may perhaps be useful on Windows 8, say, as an easier way to close down your system.
