MyPublicWifi is a simple program which can turn your wireless-enabled laptop or PC into a wifi access point.
Setup is fairly straightforward. A single dialog provides just three boxes to complete, with your network name, key (the connection uses WPA2 encryption), and the local network connection which has internet access.
A couple of optional settings allow you to block file sharing software, and log URLs accessed over the network.
Clicking "Start Hotspot" then activates the program. You should be able to see your network name in other devices, connect using your key, and access the internet as normal.
There are some issues here. In particular, the URL Logging feature failed to record anything at all on one of our test systems. And the Clients tab, which in theory should show any connected systems, remained blank at all times.
We couldn't figure out the cause, though, so it's possible the program may deliver better results on other systems. And the core functionality, the wireless hotspot, worked exactly as it should. If you need this kind of tool then MyPublicWifi may be worth a try.
Verdict:
MyPublicWifi made setting up a wireless hotspot quick and easy, but problems with URL logging and the Clients list were a concern
