LinkedIn for iOS 6.0 revamps design, makes iPhone app easier to use and navigate

18 April 2013, Nick Peers

LinkedIn 6.0LinkedIn Corporation has released LinkedIn for iOS 6.0, a brand new version of its app for connecting to the world’s favourite professional social network. Version 6.0 is very much an iPhone-focussed release, sporting a new redesign, customisable navigation and ability to interact with content directly from the updates stream.

In contrast, the iPad release is a simple maintenance one, fixing unspecified bugs and crashes to improve “app quality and performance”.

The headline new feature in LinkedIn for iOS 6.0 is the redesign of the phone app. It’s undoubtedly more elegant and streamlined compared to the previous version’s rather chunky look – displaying personalised content through a more vibrant-looking stream.

Not only has the stream been redesigned, but users are now able to interact directly with content direct from the app itself. Individual posts can be commented on or liked, while other available interactions include following, inviting and sharing.

The app also aims to be more customisable – users now tap the LinkedIn logo at the top or swipe in from the left to access the new personalised and customisable navigation screen for switching views. The navigation is full customisable, with an “Add shortcut” option letting users pin their own frequently used sections of LinkeIn to the navigation screen. Available options include groups, companies, who’s viewed the user’s profile and recent activity.

The main updates stream has also been improved, with users now able to interact directly with the stream, through inviting, following, liking, sharing or commenting. iPhone users are also now able to follow Influencers in order to gain access to their insights and content.

The update also reflects LinkedIn’s worldwide user base, adding support for Dutch and Norwegian to bring the total count of supported languages to 15.

LinkedIn for iOS 6.0 is available now as a free download for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch.
