LA software developer iolo Technologies has released a brand new version of its PC optimisation and tuning suite, iolo System Mechanic 11. The tool is available in a range of editions, from a cut-down Free version to both Professional and Premium editions.
Version 11 introduces a number of new and enhanced features. New additions to the suite include AcceleWrite real-time optimisation technology, expanded startup optimisation and resource boosting tools, Windows 8 integration and a new unlimited home license covering all PCs in a single household.
System Mechanic 11’s headline new feature – found in the paid-for versions only – is AcceleWrite technology. This technology basically optimises file placement on SSDs and traditional platter-based hard drives to minimise the random file placement, not only minimizing fragmentation but also increasing overall system file performance.
Version 11 also promises full integration with Windows 8, although this doesn’t extend to full integration into the new Metro-style interface; instead, as with previous versions, the app is configured from the traditional Windows desktop.
Version 11 also promised an enhanced startup optimizer, with broader coverage of potentially unwanted startup apps and a promise of better performance optimization coupled with a simpler user interface.
Many other modules have also been enhanced, including the All-in-one PC Cleanup PowerTool, which has added junk file patterns, improved scan speeds and new detection methods added to its armoury. Similarly, the Privacy Cleaner claims to include “dozens” of new targets, taking its coverage to all major web browsers and chat clients.
Windows 7 and 8 users will also benefit from a tweaked Jump List, which allows you to trigger key tools from the program’s Taskbar icon – now it’s possible to launch a full scan and repair from the Jump List.
Most of these enhancements are restricted to the paid-for apps only – only the PC Cleanup and Privacy Cleaner tools are also found in the free version.
iolo System Mechanic 11 Free is available as a feature-limited free download, while trials of both iolo System Mechanic 11 and iolo System Mechanic 11 Pro are also available. The full version of System Mechanic 11 has a MSRP of $49.95, while System Mechanic 11 Pro, which also includes anti-virus and anti-spyware, costs $69.95. Both versions come with the new Whole Home License, which means a single purchase covers your entire household.
