Geo-Tag Mapper 1.1
Plot geo-tagged photos on an interactive globe

Geo-Tag Mapper is a simple free tool for plotting geo-tagged images on a globe.

Launch the program, point it at a starting folder, and it will scan that folder tree looking for geo-tagged JPEGs. A globe (using KDE's Marble project) is then displayed where the position of each image is highlighted, while the status bar tells you the total number of images scanned, and the number of geotags found.

If you can't see all your photos immediately, try clicking and dragging to rotate the globe, or spin the mouse wheel to zoom in and out. (You can also navigate from the keyboard by using the cursor keys, and zooming with the plus and minus keys on the numeric keypad.)

As you spin the globe you'll see red "P" symbols highlighting each photo position. Click one of these to display a preview of that image.

Version 1.1 fixes a big with coordinate signs.

Verdict:

Geo-Tag Mapper is extremely basic, but it works and is easy to use. Developer it-digin also produces some very sophisticated commercial AIS and GIS products, so it's possible the program may gain extra features in the future.

Spotlight: Free Full Software

Unreal Engine 4.7.2.0

Free Full Commercial Software

Unreal Engine is Epic Games' game engine, a powerful suite of tools for developing anything from basic 2D games to professional RPGs, first person shooters and whatever else you like.

Wide standards support - DirectX, OpenGL, JavaScript/ WebGL - means your projects can be targeted to almost any platform: consoles, iOS, Android, Windows, OS X, Linux, HTML5 browsers and more.

There's a vast amount to learn, of course, and that's even before you start building your game. But there's plenty of documentation, tutorials, demos and sample projects to point you in the right direction.

The package is now entirely free, too - no annoying limitations, nag screens or anything else. Epic now only requires that you pay a 5% royalty after the first $3,000 of revenue per product per quarter. And even then, you "pay no royalty for film projects, contracting and consulting projects such as architecture, simulation and visualization."
