Swiss developer iterate GmbH has released Mountain Duck 5.0, a landmark release of its tool for mounting server and cloud storage as a disk in Windows and macOS.
Version 5.0’s most eye-catching feature is a new Integrated connect mode, which utilises native APIs to integrate with both File Explorer (Windows) and Finder (macOS). Also added is SMB support along with file versioning for FTP, SFTP and WebDAV.

The new integrated connect mode feature removes the need for device driver installations or network mounts, resulting in noticeably faster file writes and file operation performance on a par with local disk operations.
The feature not only delivers better performance, but also gives users the ability to enjoy a similar user experience to mounting OneDrive or iCloud Drive with any cloud storage provider of their choosing.

Other new features include SMB support, making it possible to use Mountain Duck to connect to a range of local network file shares, including Windows, Linux Samba and macOS File Sharing.
Users also gain the ability to backup and restore previous versions of files via a new Custom Versioning feature that extends to protocols with no native support for such a feature, including FTP and WebDAV.
There’s also a new Activity Panel available via the app’s status bar or system tray icon for monitoring file operations alongside pending mounts and sync tasks. For a full list of changes, see the program’s changelog.
Mountain Duck 5.0 is available now as a free trial download for Windows and macOS. The full version costs $49 new, and is a paid upgrade for all version 4 users, who will have received an email with a discount code. Those who purchased version 4 on or after 1 July 2025 are eligible for a free upgrade.
