Microsoft OneNote for Windows 8 16.0
Creating and managing notes on your tablet just got easier.

It’s easy to scatter thoughts and ideas about the place – a scrap of paper here, an obscurely named text file there. Before you know it, your computer and desk are littered with disjointed ramblings, leaving you wondering how you can pull it all together into the gem of an idea you had before.

Microsoft OneNote – a relatively recent addition to the Office family – is its answer to the question of where you keep everything you jot down. And the good news is that OneNote on the Windows RT/8 platform is every bit as good as the desktop version.

Creating notes is mercifully simple, as is organising them into notebooks and sections. Type anywhere within a canvas to enter text, attach images, create lists and more. Everything you create is a container, and you can drag and drop these around the screen until they’re laid out as you wish. Double-tap or right-click an item to access more options, displayed via a neat pop-up.

You can also organise your notes using to-do tags, which can double up as list items.

OneNote is cloud-based, which means you’ll need to sign into (or set up) your Microsoft account to use it. Once done, however, all notes are stored online, and synced automatically to your other devices. You’ll find mobile apps available for iPhone, iPad and Android as well as the free desktop version for Windows and Mac.

OneNote is one of those programs you need to train yourself to use – but once you start getting to grips with it, you’ll never rely on a post-it note or random text file again. It's not quite as fully featured as the Windows desktop version, but enough functionality is here for most people's needs.

Verdict:

A superb note-taking tool with excellent navigation and collaboration features.

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 (v11.0.6)

Free Full Commercial Software

Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 is a compact, simple, but surprisingly feature-packed disc burning suite.

The program makes it easy to create simple data discs and audio CDs, for instance: just drag and drop your files onto the list area and you'll be burning the finished disc in a couple of clicks.

That's just the start, though. Burning Studio 2013 can also create data discs with customised, interactive multi-page menus, perfect if you'd like a more professional way to share and present the disc contents.

A built-in backup tool allows you to create backups which may be encrypted, compressed, and span several CDs, DVDs and Blu-rays.

And there are modules to create VCD or SVCD video projects; burn video DVDs or Blu-ray discs from prepared folders; create, browse or burn disc images (ISO, CUE/ BIN and Ashdisc formats are supported); copy discs, erase them, design and print disc covers, labels and booklets, and more.

The focus throughout is on ease of use, though, and so Ashampoo Burning Studio 2013 remains very straightforward, whatever you're doing. Most disc projects are created via the same simple interface, and for the most part all you have to do is drag and drop the necessary files. But experts will find more advanced options are only a click away, and if you need to then you can set ISO and UDF version, enable Joliet, make a disc bootable and more.

Note the download here will take you to the Downloadcrew Software Store where you can download Burning Studio 2013.
