The internet is now such a vast resource, and there is now such a wealth of both good and bad information available online, that it can be difficult to track down what you are looking for. Personal Blocklist is an extension for the Google Chrome web browser that makes it possible to hone your search results by blocking results from sites that you are not interested in.
The extension integrates tightly with Chrome, providing you with extra options next to search results. From here you can opt to block search listings from particular domains if you find that they are of little use. This means that over time it is possible to cut out low quality web sites and ensure that your results are more relevant.
Once you have indicated you want to block results from a particular site, it will never show up in search results again, although you do have the option of editing your blocked list in case you make a mistake or change your mind about a domain.
The information gathered by Google as users indicate the sites they find most useful will be used to further fine-tune search results for the benefit of everyone. In the meantime, the extension provides a quick and easy way to clear the clutter from your Google searches and enable you to focus on the most useful resources.
Bug fix in version 2.6:
- fixed an issue with the extension not being triggered for some search urls
Verdict:
A wonderful idea to help clean up the internet that is already useful, but can only improve as more people start to use it.
