Security testing lab AV-Comparatives has released its October Real-World Protection report, rating the performance of 20 top antivirus products.
Bitdefender and Kaspersky topped the charts once more, with a 100% protection rate.
AVIRA and Trend Micro also blocked everything, but had more false positives (1 and 12).
AVG continued its recent climb up the rankings, a 99.7% protection rate and zero false positives earning it a solid fifth place. Not bad at all for a company which was languishing in the lower regions of the charts only a few months ago.
Elsewhere, F-Secure stands out for a not-so-impressive reason, once again delivering more false positives than anyone else.
And at the tail end of the chart, McAfee, Lavasoft and ThreatTrack Vipre somehow scored less than Windows 7 manages, without installing any third-party products at all.
AV-Comparatives’ October Real-World Protection report is now available in PDF form, and summarised as a dynamic chart on the AV-Comparatives site.
