Millennia Corporation has released version 7.5 of its family history program, Legacy. Version 7.5 is a minor update notable for the fact it adds additional functionality to the program’s integration to the “New” FamilySearch.org website, which simplifies the task of finding and merging records from this valuable – and free – online resource into the user’s family tree through Legacy itself.

Part of the update includes new FamilySearch certifications in four areas: Sync, Update, Ordinance Reservation (LDS-specific) and Ordinance Request (LDS-specific). The Sync certification allows Legacy to synchronise the information held in its file with a family tree stored on FamilySearch, making it possible to research directly via the FamilySearch website before merging the results into Legacy at a later date. This works in conjunction with the Update certification, which allows the user to publish information stored in the Legacy user file to the FamilySearch family tree, with the ability to merge matched individuals.

The “New” FamilySearch.org website is currently only open to members of the LDS Church, but access is expected to be extended to the general public by the end of this year. The “old” portion of the website remains accessible to all.

Legacy is one of the more established family history programs on the market for Windows users. Version 7.5 also contains a number of minor bug fixes, and is the first update to be released since a raft of minor updates for version 7.4 ended in June 2010.

Legacy 7.5 is available as an update within the program for Deluxe Edition edition users (switch to the Legacy Home tab to access it), or as a standalone download for users of the cut-down Standard Edition. Legacy runs on all Windows machines from Windows 98 onwards. It’s available in two editions: a feature-limited Standard edition, and a Deluxe Edition, which costs $29.95.
