An often-overlooked app, Clips in Apple's video creation tool that designed with fun in mind. This is not a serious video editing tool, but one that's been put together with the Instagram and TikTok generation in mind. All you need is your iPhone or iPad, and you can set about recording a video before bringing it to life with all manner of special effects.

Previously only able to record square footage, Clips has been updated to include support for a range of aspect ratios, as well as HDR video capture on supported devices. Once you have recorded footage, there are numerous editing options at your disposal, including adding text overlays, special effects and background music.

The app includes a number of soundtracks that will automatically adjust to suit the length of whatever video you record. The Live Titles feature can be used to automatically generate subtitled on the fly for the purposes of accessibility or just as a neat effect. If you have an iPad with an Apple Pencil, you can use this to take advantage of the Scribble function.

Clips is delightfully easy to use, and this massively adds to its appeal. It's easy to add stickers, images and pan/zoom effects. There is even the option of recording videos of your Memoji if you don’t want to show your face to the world. The filters and special effects that are available are all pretty impressive, enabling you to completely transform the look of your recording into a number of different styles.

Anything you create in the app can be shared directly to social media platforms as well as sites such as YouTube.
