Resize windows to exact dimensions with Sizer

28 February 2017, Mike Williams

SizerSizer 4 is a free tool which resizes desktop windows to precise dimensions: 640×480, 800×600, 1024×768, or any other values you might need for a specific design or document.

The program starts very simply. Run it, start to resize a desktop window and a tooltip updates in real time to show the current dimensions, a helpful way to see exactly what you’re doing.

If you don’t want to manually resize something, move your mouse cursor to the corner of a window, right-click when the cursor changes to the sizing icon, and Sizer displays a list of target dimensions. Select one and the window resizes automatically.

If the window is maximised there’s no border, but in theory you can right-click the window restore button to see the list of dimensions (this didn’t work for us with all applications).

However you access it, Sizer’s menu opens with some standard sizes (640×480, 800×600, 1024×768, more), sizes grouped by aspect ratio (4:3, 16:9, 16:10) and YouTube dimensions (240p, 360p, 480p, 720p… up to 2160p).

Use the standard window sizes or add your own

If that doesn’t suit your requirements, no problem, the list is completely reconfigurable. Delete some or all entries, add others, do whatever you like until you’ve got a list that works for you.

Sizer also has the beginnings of a very powerful macro engine which can resize and reposition multiple windows with a single hotkey. This didn’t even begin to work for us, and the current documentation will confuse even expert users, but there’s some promise here. And in the meantime, Sizer’s basic functionality is already more than enough to justify the download. Check it out.

Sizer 4 is available for Windows 7 and later.
