Berlin-based O&O Software has released a major update to its Windows backup and recovery suite. O&O DiskImage 23 Premium is the latest version of the consumer edition, aimed at home users who want their PC protected without needing to understand how imaging software works.
The first thing users will notice is a redesigned, guided interface. It now opens on a status overview that shows how well the PC is protected, which backups have completed and what’s scheduled next. It also recommends next steps, so users who haven’t opened the program in a while can see whether anything needs doing.
The headline new feature is support for additional backup copies to storage of the user’s choosing, including S3-compatible cloud services, NAS drives and servers. Backups are still written locally first and then uploaded in the background. Users get a quick local restore point plus an off-site copy, and the backup job itself doesn’t slow down.
Backup scheduling has also been simplified with automated backup chains. Instead of setting up full, incremental and differential jobs by hand, users choose how often they want to back up and DiskImage configures the schedule for them.
“Regular backups should be easy to set up and need little attention,” says Olaf Kehrer, Managing Director of O&O Software. He adds that the new cloud integration gives users more flexibility over where their backups are kept.
The established toolset carries over from previous versions. DiskImage can back up whole systems, drives, partitions, or individual files and folders, either incrementally or differentially and while Windows is running. Backups can be protected with AES-256 encryption and saved to internal, external or network drives. On the recovery side, users can restore single files, restore to different hardware or boot into emergency recovery when Windows won’t start.
O&O DiskImage 23 Premium is available now as a free 30-day trial. A single-PC licence costs $49.95, but can be bought from the Downloadcrew Software Store for only $24.95, saving 50% from MSRP.
