iolo System Checkup 3.0 offers to keep your PC optimised when you say so

17 August 2011, Nick Peers

iolo has released System Checkup 3.0, a tool for scanning and resolving various problems and issues with your PC. It’s aimed at users who don’t like the idea of using an always-on tool lie iolo’s own System Mechanic to maintain and tweak their computer.

System Checkup utilises similar technology to System Mechanic, but doesn’t sit in the background tuning the computer constantly; instead it’s designed to be run occasionally – every month or so – to perform a quick scan, repair and tuneup of your PC.

System Checkup performs a range of scans – nine in all – to check for problems. These are internet speed, memory levels, startup speed, Registry errors, drive corruption, security holes, drive clutter, internet clutter and shortcuts check. Once complete, a list of potential problems is displayed – the user can expand any section to view more details about individual problems alongside the program’s recommendations.

From here, the user has one of two choices: either opt to manually fix the problems if possible, or apply a one-click fix. The latter doesn’t come free, however – you’ll be prompted to sign up for an account and then either pay $10 to fix the problems diagnosed by System Checkup, or purchase an annual subscription for $30, which allows you to use the program’s auto-fix button an unlimited number of times over a period of 12 months.

iolo System Checkup 3.0 is available as a free download for PCs running Windows XP or later. The scan itself, coupled with viewing detailed information about the scan results, is completely free and can be run an unlimited number of times.
