TweetDeck has earned itself a reputation as one of the most versatile and flexible Twitter clients available, and the release of version 0.35 adds a number of new features that serve to add to its appeal. A new Trending Topics column makes it possible to find out what other Twitter users around the world are talking about, and descriptions are pulled in from WhatTheTrend.com to help with the deciphering of mysterious hashtags.
One of the key features of Twitter is that messages are restricted to 140 characters in length. While such brevity is usually not a problem, there are times when a few more words are needed. To help with this, TweetDeck v.0.35 allows for cross-posting between Twitter and Google Buzz. If you type a long message, the Tweet will be posted to both Twitter and Google Buzz, with the latter featuring the full version of the text. Your tweet will contain the start of the message and a link to the full text on Buzz.
When working with a limited number of characters, posting web links can be tricky as it leaves little room to say anything else. As a result of this, there has been an explosion in the number of URL shortening services that can be used to post links using fewer characters. But the problem with shortened URLs is that the destination address is hidden until the link is clicked. TweekDeck v0.35 feature support for Twitter’s t.co URL shortening service which reveals the destination address when the mouse is hovered over a shortened URL.
By signing up for a TweetDeck account, it is easy to import all of the accounts that have been added – Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, Foursquare and many more. This makes it easy to install TweetDeck on multiple computers without the need to configure each one manually and also means that you can quickly sign in to multiple social networking sites. You now also have the ability to upload photos to your Posterous blog from TweetDeck.
