Synchronise notes online with JustNotes

26 July 2010, Software Publisher

There are a number of ways in which you can store notes on your Mac, but to keep things as simple as possible, it makes sense to use a dedicated note taking tool. Once such application is JustNotes.

As well as enabling you to create a new set of lists from scratch, JustNotes can import existing notes in .txt or Evernote format. A particularly handy feature of the app is its ability to synchronise notes with Simplenote so they can be accessed from any computer with an internet connection.

Once you have JustNotes up and running, click the menu bar icon to create a new note. Click the + button and start typing, or click the cog icon in the lower left of the program window. Move to the Note tab and click the Import button if you would like to import existing notes.

By moving to the Hotkeys tab you can configure keyboard shortcuts that will make JustNotes even easier to use. A number of shortcuts have already been created for you, but you can set the key combinations that should be used to toggle the JustNotes window or create a quick note by clicking the Click to record shortcut text and then pressing the shortcut you would like to use.

To allow JustNotes to synchronise the notes you have created online, you will need to create a free Simplenote account. Pay a visit to http://simplenoteapp.com/ and click the Sign up link – or click Log in if you already have an account.

Return to the JustNotes settings screen and move to the Syncing tab. Enter the email address and password for your Simplenote account and tick the box labelled Enable syncing before clicking Done. From now on, any notes you create in JustNotes will be automatically uploaded to your Simplenote account so they can be accessed from other computers.
