Drive fragmentaion is something more readily associated with PCs, but it something that affects Mac users as well. Constantly updating your operating system can lead to file fragmentation that, over time, can lead to a loss in overall system performance.
iDefrag helps to overcome this problem by enabling you to defragment your file system. The application does not need to be run from a bootable CD or DVD like other similar tools - simply indicate that you would like to perform a defrag and your Mac will reboot into a dedicated defragmentation mode.
You can opt to defragment your entire hard drive or just individual files. As defragmentation is a disk intensive activity, iDefrag constantly monitors the temperature of your disk. Should things start to get a little warm, activity will be paused until it has cooled down.
Defragmentation is one of the easiest ways to regain some of your system's lost performance. Files can be accessed faster and general response times will be improved. And with support for AppleScript and Automator you can automate the entire process.
