deJPEG 2.0
Easily extract the JPEGs from just about any file

DeJPEG is a tool which can extract the JPEGs from any file, and save them as separate images.

You might have a PDF or DOCX file, say, with a lot of embedded JPEGs. Manually extracting them would be time-consuming, even if you had the right software - and that's where deJPEG comes in. Just point it at your PDF, click "Analyse file", and the program will examine the source file, saving any JPEGs it finds in the same folder.

Our first problem with this approach is it's a little too simple. You can't define an output folder, for instance - any JPEGs are automatically saved to the same folder as the source file. And you can't specify any pattern for the output file names. They're always "image1.jpg", "image2.jpg", "image3.jpg" and so on.

Another complication is that the files aren't always what you'd expect; we found some were distorted in some ways, others didn't appear to be regular JPEGs at all.

Still, one significant plus for the program is it doesn't care about the source file format. It doesn't matter if you give it a Word document, a spreadsheet, a database or anything else. Whatever the file type, deJPEG will just scan through its contents, extracting anything which looks like a JPEG.

And while the program regularly failed to deliver in our tests, on many other occasions it worked perfectly. So if you ever need to extract images from a file or document, we'd grab a copy anyway - one day it just might prove very useful.

DeJPEG is short on options, and failed to deliver in some of our tests. Most of the time it worked very well, though, and on balance it's certainly worth a try

WhatsApp Messenger 2.12.11

Free Full Commercial Software

WhatsApp Messenger is the world's most popular instant messaging app for smartphones.

You can use it to send and receive text and voice messages, photos, videos, even call your friends in other countries, and because it uses your phone's internet connection it might not cost you anything at all (depending on whether you'll pay data charges).

It's easy to set up and use. There's no need to create and remember new account names or pins because it works with your phone number, and uses your regular address book to find and connect you with friends who use WhatsApp already.

You can talk one-to-one or in group chats, and because you're always logged in there's no way to miss messages. Even if your phone is turned off, WhatsApp will save your messages and display them as soon as you're back online.

There's plenty more (location sharing, contact exchange, message broadcasting) and the app is free for a year, currently $0.99/ year afterwards.

Version 2.12.11 brings:

• Links that you share or receive will now include a rich preview. When sending a link, you have the option to not include a rich preview.
• Additional 3D Touch features: You can now quickly Peek and Pop chats.
• Redesigned Settings tab.
• You can now view all your starred messages across all your chats in Settings — Starred Messages.
