ZenKEY is perhaps the ultimate in PC management tools, an amazingly configurable program which allows you to control your entire system via a host of customisable hotkeys.
At its simplest, you might just set up ZenKEY to easily launch commonly-used resources: files, folders, programs, websites, Control Panel applets and so on.
The program also has a host of window management tools, though. You can assign any hot key to set transparency; send a window to or from the system tray; move, resize or reposition windows in various ways; set windows to be "always on top", tile them or change their properties. And if that's not enough, ZenKEY even has its own "infinite" virtual desktop, which means you can be running a host of programs and still keep all their windows properly organised.
Elsewhere, the program can be set to perform various useful actions: shut down or restart your PC, open or close a CD door, start the screen saver, control Winamp-compatible media players and so on. And the ability to send a series of keystrokes to a program means ZenKEY can automate many other tasks with ease.
If you're thinking this sounds like it might take a while to set up, then you could be right. Keep in mind that you don't have to configure ZenKEY for all of these tasks, though - if you only want to use some of the window management functions, say, that's just fine.
And whatever your intentions, you'll appreciate the program's configuration wizard (left-click the ZenKEY system tray icon, click ZenKEY > Start the ZenKEY Wizard). This allows you to decide what you want to do, configure appropriate hotkeys and so on, and you can then further amend these later until everything's working just as you'd like.
Version 2.5.2:
1. Fixed error when tiling 4 windows.
2. Added 'Windows System Folder' actions so they can be added after installation.
Verdict:
If you like the idea of controlling your system from hotkeys then you'll love exploring everything ZenKEY has to offer. You'll need to be patient, though - there's a lot to learn, and it may take a while to figure out how exactly how the program works.
